Hello Yassir, Song To The Tune Of Hello Dolly

Aug 7, 2012

[Editor’s note: This song to the tune of Hello Dolly reprinted below was written by journalist David Bedein following the recent new claims that Yassir Arafat has been poisoned. Bedein says he tries never to lose his sense of humour throughout his journalistic work. For a good analysis on the  issues surrounding the new claims and decision of the PA Authority to exhume Yassir Arafat’s body from his grave in Ramallah read Barry Rubin:

Following the momentous July 4th decision of the Palestinian Authority to exhume Yassir Arafat, the time has come to welcome him back

Sing to the tune of HELLO DOLLY

Hello, Yassir ,
Well, hello, Yassir
It’s so nice to have you back from where you belong
You’re lookin’ swell, Yassir
I can tell, Yassir
You’re still glowin’, you’re still crowin’
From your plutonium
We feel the room swayin’
While the band’s playin’
One of your old favourite songs from way back when

So, take your wrap, fella
Find Suwa  an empty lap, fellas
Dolly’ll never go away again

Hello, Yassir
Well, hello, Yassir
It’s so nice to have you back from where you belonged
You’re lookin’ swell, Yassir
I can tell, Yassir
You’re still glowin’, you’re still crowin’
From your plutonium
We feel the room swayin’
While the band’s playin’
One of your old favourite songs from way back when

Golly, gee, fella
Find Suwa a vacant knee, fella
Yassir  never go away
Yassir  never go away
Yassir  never go away again

[Editor’s note: I like Bedein’s use of the tune Hello Dolly, but I think "The Cat Came Back,"[ a song about a cat coming back every time old Mister Johnson wanted to get rid of it] would be a good jingle to sing as Arafat’s body is exhumed. It would go like this:

But Arafat came back, he couldn’t stay no long-er,
Yes Arafat came back de very next day,
Arafat came back—thought he were a goner,
But Arafat came back for he wouldn’t stay away.]
